Okay, so you lot know that I have a similar memory-span as that of Dory from Finding Nemo (love that film btw- especially those turtles! Squirt and Crush! I used to have a huge poster of them in my room… Grab shell, dude! Sweeeet. Anyway.) so I’ll relay events as best as I can manage!
So I got ready, black skinnies, red chain belt, red suede kitty heels, black shirt, red coat, beehive type hair (if you know me you’ll know what I’m on about…) and I get there and find, as expected, almost every single other Guide is wearing neon and flashing bunny ears. Pinkandfluffy included, but I guess that’s of no surprise really. She did look tres jolie, though, I must admit.
It sounds really lame but it’s a pretty cool atmosphere, everyone’s singing Guide songs at each other and getting stoked… Yeah, just cool.
Anywho, Sam and Mark were presenting, which my Mother Goose was thrilled about. The first act were the Sugababes, who played pretty much the same songs as they did when I went to see them five years ago, which was rather amusing.
Next up was Leon Jackson, wearing a wooly mandigan with no tshirt underneath, which looked almost as peculiar as the expression of shock upon his face as he sheepishly announced he’d never seen so many flashing girls at once. No, really. Then he got us all to recite our promises, much to the leaders’ delight.
This was followed by a rather tipsy Sam Beeton. You could actually hear the tut-tutting pass round the room like a Mexican wave. Of which there were many, btw.
Fourth act was DJ Ironik, although it could have easily been mistaken for Alvin and the Chipmunks. Need I say more?Next up were Avenue, who played one song then left. I can’t say I was sad to see them go. They got disqualified from X Factor some number of seasons ago, I think. Look boys, you’ve had your chance. Now leave us in peace, would’ya?
The Saturdays followed, I can’t say I thouht they were any different to any other generic, formulaeic girl band I’ve heard before, but they were wearing cool tights.
This is when things started looking up. The Script were the next act, and although they’re not really to my taste, they were pretty decent and, admittedly, had me singing along because they were just such performers. And they threw Blondie their drumsticks.
The Hoosiers were the penultimate act, they were the ones I’d really been looking forward to and they DID NOT FAIL TO IMPRESS! They marched on stage in their different coloured sparkly military uniforms, armed with funky guitars, and instrumentalists in space suits, one of whom turned out to be the script’s danny. They were pretty damn awsome, imho.
Scouting For Girls rounded things up with a pile of confetti. They did all their singles, and got the biggest cheers. Tbh I didn’t think they were as good as the Hoosiers, but I must confess they were fantastic. They even dedicated “She’s So Lovely” to the GirlGuides, so all’s well that ends well.
All in all, it was pretty rad, but I’ve got to go pack now as I’m off to Golden’s tonight and then…!
Ah, you shall haveto wait until tomorrow to hear about that. Ciao, bambini!
