Gerard- “You should never want to hurt yourself. You should love yourself.”
Frank- “I don’t even know what emo is. I don’t think anyone does really. In fact, I challenge anyone to find the real definition of emo.”
Gerard- “I don’t really feel we’re a part of the emo culture and I never have… There’s a lot of garbage that gets associated with us that’s emo. We’re the furthest thing from emo. When we started we couldn’t even get booked on concerts cause we didn’t look like them, didn’t sound like them, didn’t act like them. So, we would actually tour with Christian metal bands. They were the only guys that would take us at the beginning, that and indie rock bands.”
Mikey- “It doesn’t bother me anymore. Everybody gets bent about it, but call it what you want! Everyone’s allowed their opinion. If they wanna call us R’n'B, they could. Call us anything. Call us… flinstone! It doesn’t matter. It is what it is. I think it’s rock and roll but someone else might think something different.”
Gerard- “We’re just bringing to the world what our interpretation of rock is.”
Frank- “It’s just a derogatory name. Call us jerks, call us white trash, call us emo. It’s the same thing and I don’t really care. It’s just a label.”
Gerard- “We are so not a part of it that it definitely hurt us for quite a while… It keeps haunting you… It’s a burden.”
Frank- “Any kind of art form or music SHOULD be emotional.”
Gerard- “I think emo is a dead scene and it has been for a while now.”
Frank and Gerard- “Emo is a pile of S-T!
Gerard- “Emo… I don’t even know what emo is. I don’t hang around with any emos.”

(On ‘Steven’s untitled rock show’, Mikey Frank and Gerard are looking at the prototypes for their new action figures when Gerard’s falls apart)
Gerard- {sarcastically} “I just got so emo I fell apart. That’s what actually happened. {laughs}.

**See where they’re coming from yet? To recap, MCR aren’t emo and don’t encourage their fans to be, they discourage them but won’t hold it against you if you are. If emo just means emotional, yeah sure, call us that, please. But if you don’t mean it in that way, you need to understand what it actually is that you’re saying and how unjust it is to stereotype. Just because we don’t conform to the norm or even what you like doesn’t make it wrong. They don’t care and neither do I.**
